| Beneath The Mask has been assembled by Andrew J. Brooksbank (who runs the Love and Rockets fanzine, Apollox), with the co-operation of Bauhaus and Beggars Banquet.
The first section is a 'diary' of Murphy / Ash / J. / Haskins related events, running from the beginnings of Bauhaus in 1978 up to 1996 and incorporating Tones on Tail, Peter Murphy's solo career and Love and Rockets as well as additional projects. Part two is related just to Bauhaus and is a visual 'scrapbook' of their career. In addition to his own archives, Andrew has had access to the group's own early visuals and material from Peter Edwards who toured with the band. With rare gig flyers, adverts, and personal memorabilia, the book traces the band's history in a unique way with visual information that never gets mentioned in written articles (eg. one of their support groups was REM!). The material is presented chronologically along with complete gig listings of every show Bauhaus played. The third section is a full colour, illustrated UK discography with each record given a full page, release details and collector's notes. With most of these titles now unavailable in their original form, this is the ultimate reference guide. The accompanying COMPACT DISC has been assembled from the band's archives. During an early 1979 session, they had some extra time at the end so ran through, live, most of the other numbers that they had written. David kept a cassette of this 'show' and it is this that forms the basis for the CD. The quality of the performance is, to be kind, rough, but it does provide a fascinating insight for fans into Bauhaus' very early genesis |

| It is very unlikely that these tracks will be ever be available anywhere else, so this is a one-off opportunity. The economics of book publishing are very different to CD manufacture. Basically, they're not only mighty expensive to get started and print but they are also bulky to store so that we will only be printing a little over the initial demand of what we can sell. Since a large run is the only economical way of doing it, it is very doubtful we'll get sufficient demand for a second printing. What this simply means is that there will be one printing then that's it! | ||||
| It isn't readily available in bookshops as we don't have a distributor, and it will be difficult to rack in record stores. We think the easiest way to get the book will be through MAIL ORDER from Beggars Banquet (check the link bar).
So, here's the important part.... The cost in the UK and Europe is £20 which includes postage and packing. For the USA and rest of the world the cost is £22 which includes shipping and handling. At the current exchange rate (around £1.00 = $1.62) this is around $35 - $36. |
