The Somactics are: The Somatics formed in the Hyde Park area of Leeds in the Summer of 1999. Following a number of live dates, they released their first single on the Oxford-based Shifty Disco label - an early version of Last Days In An Old Town - and have subsequently gone on to record their debut album. The Somatics was recorded and mixed at Loco Studios in Monmouth, Wales, at the end of 2001, and mastered at Abbey Road by Chris Blair. With vocals shared between Stephanie and Richard, the bands sound is virtually impossible to pigeonhole - its psychedelic, and melodic, but with an irresistible and distinctive character of northern England. The arrangements and instrumentation are unique, familiar yet disconcerting, with guitar sounds reminiscent of Tom Verlaine, Neil Young, Pete Townshend and Syd Barrett at their most creative. Lead tracks are Lemonade, LS2 9LZ, Happy Land, Urban 45, and the twelve-minute closing track Goodbye 25. |
