2nd HOTTEST BAND IN AMERICA
Screenshot

The National have been voted the 2nd best band in America by 20 top music bloggers. Coming in just behind Sufjan Stevens, The National won the judges over with their superb album "Alligator":

There is no better band in the US today than these five (and sometimes six) boys from Columbus, OH. Alligator is --start to finish-- the best, most complete album of the year. - Music for Robots

Seeing this act live will convert even the uninitiated. Watching so much pathos on display is almost draining, but then the chorus of "Mr. November" kicks in and the only thing you can do is bang your head. - 5500

Perhaps the most underrated band in America. - Central Village

LISTEN TO ALBUM NOW

AbelAll you need to know about The National is that they gave up good jobs for this. But perhaps you want more: Described by Uncut as 'a genuine treasure', they are five friends from Cincinnati, Ohio, who started making music in 1999, when they found themselves living near one another again in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.

The National contains two pairs of brothers - Aaron Dessner (guitars, bass) and Bryce Dessner (guitar), Scott Devendorf (guitar; bass) and Bryan Devendorf (drums). Matt sings because he's taller, blonder, and older than the rest.

To date the band have released two albums 'The National' and 'Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers', which won critical acclaim from Uncut (best albums of the year) to the NME, from France's Liberation to The Sunday Times.

Their new album is due very soon - released 11th April in the UK. For those who can't wait to hear it (we understand) we've put together a splendid online album player. Prepare to fall in love with The National - well that is if you haven't already.
