LUCKY DOG RECORDINGS 03-04 |
Lucky Dog Recordings 03-04, released 11th July 2005 is a new album from Stuart A. Staples. Here's what the man himself has to say about it:
"This album grew out of a collection of one-off recordings,
usually played only once, for no particular reason. Mostly from a session one morning around April 03 when Suzanne told me to 'just go and make something' when she became fed up with me moping around.
Accidental piano loops, old trombone ideas, snippets of rhythms and drones, a recent purchase of an old Lowrey organ all seemed to hold something new for me. I didn't know what I wanted, but I knew what I didn't.
After years of making beautifully crafted music with the band, I felt more than ready to appreciate the ugly and awkward. Now I realise the albums I couldn't help but listen to at the time were Springsteen's 'Nebraska' and Cabaret Voltaire's 'Voice of America', I suppose it makes some kind of sense.
Over time each idea asked for for more and gradually other players came 'round and helped them along. David Boulter played much of the organ and harmonium, myself and Neil Fraser had an afternoon together and made the basis for 'Say something now' and 'Shame on you'. Terry Edwards played the saxes and arranged the silver band on 'I've come a long way'. Thomas Belhom added the drums and Yann Tiersen played the piano on 'She don't have to be good to me'. 'Huge and Stout' of the 'Tiger Lillies' gave 'People fall down' its rhythm and Gina Foster sang.
Ian Caple brought invaluable expertise to the mixing stage and Suzanne helped me take the plant photos, that had been growing in my mind while I was working on the music."

BAREBACK OUT NOW |
|
This is 'Bareback', the first and the definitive DVD collection of videos from Tindersticks.
The DVD includes nine stylized short films, all directed by Tindersticks long term friend and international Emmy award winner and Bafta nominee Martin Wallace.
Martin Wallace has been collaborating with Tindersticks since 1993. This collection therefore spans the Tindersticks full repertoire by including songs from their Beggars Banquet releases and from their four earlier Island Records albums.
Complimenting the Tindersticks history of writing understated yet beautifully sublime music, the films themselves are tasteful and truly original. This DVD is a welcome escape from a fast and furious world of the MTV generation, subtle, intelligent, breathtaking and heart-warming just like the Tindersticks themselves.

The US release date for 'Bareback' has been scheduled for March 8th, 2005.
"Tindersticks inhabit the realm of latter day Tim Buckley and Al Green. This is music of irrefutable power, verve and soul. " UNCUT
"Resigned, relaxed and breath-taking all at once" RECORD COLLECTOR
"Their songs are lushly orchestrated noir ballads that balance on a knife-edge of dark humour and brooding romanticism" TIME OUT
"Beautifully wrought songs about love, loss and regret but with soul and gospel now part of the equation there is little beyond the capacity of Stuart Staples and his group" THE TIMES
"Perfectly weighted, exquisitely fermented classics, melancholic and reflective, mature songs for the intelligent" THE GUARDIAN

TROUBLE
EVERY DAY |
|
Tindersticks'
soundtrack to Claire Denis' eagerly awaited and rather
infamous new film 'Trouble Every Day' (starring Vincent
Gallo and Beatrice Dalle) is released on Monday the
1st of October 2001 by Beggars Banquet. The film has been on release
in France and other parts of Europe since mid-July, following
it's controversial screening at the Cannes Film Festival, where
it's storyline featuring graphic sex and cannibalism caused a
furore.
This is the second time Tindersticks have worked with Denis
(Nenette et Boni, 1996) and the film is her follow up to the much-acclaimed
'Beau Travail'. The album is an original score featuring
the title theme, 'Trouble Every Day', which has already
become a firm live favourite in the bands' set. The soundtrack
was recorded in London last summer by the band with a host of
other musicians.
'Trouble Every Day' will be available on specially packaged
CD (BBQCD225) and deluxe limited edition vinyl (BBQLP225).
Tindersticks have also announced details of the most ambitious
London show in their ten year career. The band will be headlining
at The Royal Albert Hall in London on Friday the 12th of October
2001 with special support act David Kitt. The band will
be performing songs from their most recent 'Can Our Love...'
album (This is music of irrefutable power, verve and soul...discrete
perfection” - Uncut) and favourites from their acclaimed back
catalogue. This show will also feature a 20 piece string ensemble,
backing singers and a brass section. Tickets available from usual
outlets.
The band have also completed the music for a short animated film
called Trojan Horse. It was made by Cosgrove Hall, the
UK's leading and oldest animators (who have worked on everything
from Danger Mouse to The Magic Roundabout) - such luminaries as
Peter Hook have worked there over the years. The film is
based on a short story by Raymond Queneau. In return, Cosgrove
Hall have agreed to film a short animated video for the band's
'Can Our Love...' track, 'Dying Slowly'.
